BHS Mentoring

Angelica and Kim reunite at a Hope scholars event

BHS pairs UC Berkeley faculty, staff, community, and peer mentors with BHS students. These mentors can provide support in all aspects of a students life. Peer mentors are current juniors or seniors who support new students and help them navigate their way through Cal by sharing their experiences, offering encouragement, and reassurance. BHS mentors work collaboratively to guide BHS scholars to resources that enhance their success and academic path leading to graduation.

BHS students are matched with mentors prior to their arrival at Cal. Mentors initiate contact with students to introduce themselves, to ensure that they have transportation to campus, and offer assistance in setting up their residences. At the beginning of each Fall semester, BHS hosts the Welcome Event where new students meet mentors, other BHS students, and volunteers. We want BHS students to feel welcome at Cal and to experience the caring community of Cal staff, faculty, volunteers, and students on which they can rely.

Each July, the Berkeley Hope Scholars holds an information session and training for prospective mentors.   If you are interested in serving as a mentor for a BHS student, please contact:
